The composition of 18/8 austenitic stainless steel (18% Chromium, 8% Nickel) used in many  Blomus products is a significantly thicker gauge than what is normally used in these kinds of products. The value-added is that this composition of stainless steel has a "self-healing property." So, in the presence of oxygen, a layer on the surface naturally rebuilds itself when scratched. This is why stainless steel does not require any coating or other corrosion protection.
